Force Majeure
Saturday 14 March, 8pm and Sunday 15 March, 4.30pm.
Swedish yuppie couple Ebba and Tomas have taken their children to the French Alps for a skiing holiday. The sun is shining and the slopes are spectacular but, during lunch at a mountainside restaurant, a fast-moving avalanche appears to be heading right for them. While Ebba gathers the children, Tomas grabs his phone and runs for his life.
It’s a split-second decision that will reverberate long after the avalanche has run out of steam; throwing up uncomfortable questions about Tomas’ role as family patriarch and casting a deep shadow over their marriage.
“Masterful drama of a marriage in sudden crisis. Highly recommended.” New Zealand Herald. 4/5 stars.
“FORCE MAJEURE IS A JOLT. YOU WON’T KNOW WHAT HIT YOU. Director Ostlund shifts gears from humor to psychological thriller with cunning skill.” Rolling Stone.
