Mar 1, 2, 3: Festival and OSCAR movies – CELIA, A STAR IS BORN and BOHEMIAN RHAPSODY

The 2019 OSCARS have just been presented on the evening of 24th February.

  • A STAR IS BORN received the award for Best Original Song.
  • Rami Malek in BOHEMIAN RHAPSODY received the OSCAR for Best Performance by an Actor in a Leading Role. The movie also won 3 other OSCARS.
  • The OSCARs for Best Foreign Film, Best Cinematography and Best Director went to ROMA which screened at the Old School in January. FREE SOLO, another January screening at the Old School won Best Documentary.
  • THE FAVOURITE, which will screen in Raglan in mid-March, received Best Performance by an Actress in a Leading Role to Olivia Colman.
The two award winning films screening at the Old School Arts Centre on the weekend of 1st, 2nd, 3rd March are:
  • A STAR IS BORN (M) – Friday 1st March 7.00pm
  • BOHEMIAN RHAPSODY (M) – Saturday 2nd March 5.30pm, Sunday 3rd March 4.30pm

NZ International Film Festival Official Selection CELIA (Exempt – documentary) is screening on Saturday 2nd March 8.30pm, Sunday 3rd March 7.30pm.

Directed by award-winning current affairs journalist Amanda Millar, this documentary celebrates the life of equality advocate Celia Lashlie. The first female prison officer in a male prison in New Zealand, Lashlie fought to get people the tools for making responsible decisions, from female prisoners to fatherless boys to impoverished children.Lashlie had a particular focus on empowering mothers. The documentary was filmed over the last months of her life, following a diagnosis of terminal cancer.

Celia premiered at the 2018 New Zealand International Film Festival.
