Waikato District Council news
Regretfully the event announced earlier today to be held at Turangawaewae Marae to watch the National Remembrance Service for the victims of the Christchurch mosques terrorist attack, has been cancelled.
Mayor Allan Sanson said: “It is with regret that we have called off the event we were planning to hold on Friday.”
“We have taken advice from Police and the bottom line is that the security efforts required from many parties to hold an event like this at this time are too high.
The live broadcast of the service being held in Hagley Park in Christchurch will start at 10am. We encourage people to gather in their homes and workplaces to watch this.

The 1 NEWS Now livestream will be available to view worldwide.
TVNZ’s coverage will be presented by Hilary Barry and Scotty Morrison, with John Campbell in the field, starting at 9.55am.
The official service begins at 10am and TVNZ won’t carry commentary from the presenting team until the conclusion of formalities. The coverage is estimated to run through to approximately 11.30am, and will be commercial free.
