Lisa Thomson to head up powerful new council committee

Lisa Thomson, recently elected as the Waikato District councillor for Whāingaroa, is to head up a powerful new council committee. One of the four whole of council committees, the new committee will be responsible for sustainability and wellbeing. The deputy will be Deputy Mayor Carolyn Eyre.

The Sustainability & Wellbeing Committee is responsible for:

  1. Developing strategies and plans to achieve the goals of Council’s Long Term Plan as they relate to
    sustainability and the four wellbeings.
  2. Enhancing the District’s economic position by promoting it as a business-friendly and businessenabled location and providing direction on strategic initiatives, plans, projects, and potential
    major developments relating to economic and business development.
  3. Monitoring of Council’s sustainability and wellbeing related strategies and plans.
  4. Partnering to guide the provision of strategic community services to meet the current and future
    needs of the district and the enhanced wellbeing of its communities.
  5. Facilitating community and stakeholder involvement and engagement with community
    infrastructure, safety, and wellbeing matters.
  6. Overseeing civil defence and emergency management.
  7. Approval and monitoring of funding to benefit the social, cultural, and environmental wellbeing
    of communities.
