A check of the Vote Waikato website on Friday 12th after the 12 noon deadline showed two people standing for Raglan Ward Councillor. A few hours later in the early evening, the same official website listed only one candidate. Lisa Thomson, popular manager of the Whaingaroa Trade Aid shop and organizer of the Karioi Classic cycling race is listed as the sole candidate.
So it seems that from November we will have a new Councillor for Raglan. Incumbent Clint Baddeley must have decided not to run again.
For the Raglan Community Board there appears there will also not be an election. Although there are seven candidates for the six vacancies, one of these is Lisa Thomson. And as Raglan Councillor she is automatically on the Community Board. So effectively there are six candidates for the six vacancies. Returning to the Board after an absence of several years is Rangi Kereopa.
