The bike rack at the Raglan Library is still missing. Six weeks after Ngaruawahia said that the rack had been removed for ‘minor alterations’ and would be back ‘in a couple of weeks’, there is still no sign of it. And now the drinking fountain is also missing and has been replaced by an orange plastic barrier.
This week a Waikato District Council spokesperson said, “The bike rack is currently having alterations made to it and we hope to have it reinstalled next week.”
The bike rack was removed when the Council realised it had overlooked providing an accessible ramp from the accessible parking space for wheelchair access into the building. A large linking deck solved that problem. The change left no space for the bike rack and it was removed. Also access to the drinking fountain was possible only through a bark garden.
Hopefully the bike rack will be there soon and a replacement drinking fountain will be installed in a better spot.
The price of not consulting? If more people had looked at those plans, it’s likely the errors would have been spotted. Why aren’t plans like these published, at least on the website?
I agree John. The community and the Raglan Community Board were kept in the dark on this project. It wasn’t till Raglan 23 intervened that a plan and conceptual drawing became available. For this project it appears they could have consulted their own building inspector when they drew the plans up, as he appears to have been the one who insisted on provision of the access ramp for final code completion.
