‘Legend’ campaign shared with youth in Raglan

Media Release: Waikato District Council: 18 December 2015

BECOME A LEGEND THESE HOLIDAYS

WDC will hold ‘LEGEND’ related activities for youth at Raglan Domain on Dec 30-31 in conjunction with the Raglan House.

‘Stop a mate driving drunk- Legend’ is the slogan behind Waikato District Council’s upcoming drink drive campaign.

The campaign builds upon the national drink drive ‘Legend’ campaign, where mates are encouraged to look out for their friends and family.

In Raglan, the drink drive message will be shared with youth.

On 30 and 31 December activities will be run in the Kopua Domain designed to engage with youth and highlight the drink drive message. These activities are being supported by the Police and the Raglan Community House, and are part of a wider initiative being run this summer across a number of key spots in the Waikato including Raglan and the Coromandel.

In the last five years, there have been 82 serious injuries and 21 fatalities in the Waikato district where alcohol has been a crash factor.

Waikato District Council, Road Safety Co-ordinator, Megan Jolly said it is important that people step in to intervene if someone they know is about to drive impaired.

“It’s ok to speak up; in fact it’s our responsibility to do so. No one should have to share the road with an alcohol impaired driver,” she said.

The drink drive campaign, which was run for the first time in the Waikato district last year, will be re-launched in time for Christmas. Promotional material will be distributed to key businesses, and in particular to licenced premises and campgrounds.
