The Banteay Srey Khmer Restaurant in Bow Street will be closing for the last time on Wednesday 1st April. The word on Bow Street is that the business has been purchased by the owner of a Hamilton cafe.
The restaurant/ cafe scene is very competitive and it is difficult for cafe owners to make it through the winter when fewer tourists visit Raglan. The Banteay Srey’s Tuesday night banquets were popular over winter with locals. The cafe did seem to struggle at times to attract enough diners, although their $10 brunch specials had proven popular over the last summer.
The owners of the Banteay Srey will be moving to Mangere to run a bakery cafe.
Sad news as we enjoyed dining there and especially the Banquets.
We wish them all the best
I remember that guy, Robert Bull who would spit ice-cream on people.
