With only 4 days to go before nominations close for the local government election in October, the Raglan Community Board only has two candidates with nominations in. Long standing member and Deputy Chair, Bob MacLeod has his nomination in, along with newcomer Tony Oosten.
There are six positions so currently we are four short. Nominations close at 12 noon on Friday 12th August.
So far only the incumbent Councillor for the Raglan Ward Clint Baddeley has his nomination in for the single position of Raglan councillor. Rumours are swirling around Bow Street that another person will be standing.
For Mayor for the Waikato District Council, current Mayor Allan Sanson has been nominated along with Wally Hayes. No sign yet of a nomination for Brian Cathro despite his early start to campaigning.
Over at the Waikato Regional Council, only incumbent Theresa Stark has been nominated for the Waikato ward. There is no nomination for the Maori ward of
Nga Hau E Wha which includes Whaingaroa.
How does the nomination system work? Could someone elaborate please?
One person nominates the person standing by filling in the form. You attach a cheque for $200 and send the form with the cheque to the electoral officer.
Good to see Harbour Care’s Fred Lichtwark now on the Regional Council list. Interesting that John Deacon is again standing for Mayor.
