Ko Jacqui Church tōku ingoa, my name is Jacqui Church and I am excited about understanding and getting to know you more fully.
I am standing as a Mayoral candidate and if you feel we can work together for smarter, sustainable, affordable and common-sense solutions to the complex issues facing us all, then I very much welcome your support, concerns and ideas.
I have a long backlog of working within communities and community groups, which I have continued with into my 9years as a Councillor. Using a ground-up approach to understand the people I represent and advocating their needs and aspirations within the necessary strategic planning we do as council.
Many of our communities can learn from your collectiveness and acumen in forging a sustainable community of action and inclusiveness. It is key that many voices are heard as we move forward in partnership together.
The ability for smart thinking, collaboration and acceptance of a degree of risk taking are part of Raglan’s ability to lead in many areas of social and infrastructural evolution, which I have advocated for, for so long in Council.
We are all affected in our lifestyles and needs in this complex environment of change, growth and environmental issues. I strongly believe in opening our minds to innovative practical and affordable ideas. We need to ensure we provide fully informed options and solutions, including the costs implications as well as the long term benefits of projects.
I applaud you as Raglan and your generosity in sharing your learnings, and openness to partner not only within but with other people and communities, as I have facilitated in the past. I sincerely look forward to further discussions and work plans to move us forward in partnership.
I am deeply connected to Waikato and its future success. Living at Port Waikato, my community has a lot in common with you in Raglan. We all live on the wild and spectacular west coast and the great outdoors. We have a deep love for nature and the protection of the environment.
The aspiration is to ensure the environment is protected through living and working sustainably.
Our communities are both experiencing the very real and severe impacts of climate change. I am committed to solutions and feel personally, that council has traditionally been too conservative in its thinking. We need to be more progressive, innovative and focused on common sense and practical outcomes to protect our environment.
We also need to actively support within Council our valuable and important rural farms and businesses as they too plan, evolve and produce within an increasingly restrictive and complex ecosystem. Let’s be part of their solutions and not so much a part of their problems.
