From next month Raglan will join the short list of communities in New Zealand with a dedicated food waste collection service.

Xtreme Zero Waste, Waikato District Council and the Ministry for the Environment have teamed up to deliver the service, a first for the Waikato, starting from August 2017. Diverted food waste will be made into high quality compost in Raglan at Xtreme Zero Waste that will be available for purchase.

Before the service begins, each Raglan household will get:

  • A kerbside foodwaste bin which holds foodwaste and is put out for Xtreme Zero Waste to collect on the normal collection day (Mondays – Raglan West, Tuesdays – Raglan East).
  • A kitchen caddy to collect food scraps in the kitchen.
  • A packet of disposable compostable bags to go in the kitchen caddy
  • A brochure explaining what to do
