The very popular Karioi Classic, a 46km mountain bike ride on metal roads around Mt Karioi is coming up on Sunday 28th July 2013. This is the fourth time the event has been held. The race starts at Raglan Fire Station and finishes at Te Kopua Domain. The route itself takes riders around our beautiful Mt Karioi.
The route has breathtaking views of Raglan, Aotea harbour, Mt Taranaki and Raglan’s famous surf break, Manu Bay. There are winding uphill climbs on gravel roads, and speedy downhills. And once again, die-hards will again have the option of entering the Double Buster, going around twice. Race will start promptly at 7.30am from the Raglan Fire Station on Wainui Road for endurance riders and 10am for single lap riders.
And the organisers have some great news : King and Queen of Karioi will receive a $500 cash prize proudly sponsored by the Raglan Land Company. Also, there will be some wicked spot prizes again, incl a Bauer 29er Mtb and a free stay at a holiday bach kindly sponsored by Bachcare.
By entering this year’s race, you will support the restoration of Mt Karioi – From every entry, there will be a donation of $1 to A Rocha Aotearoa who undertake conservation work on the mountain.
There are road closures in place from 7.30 am – 11.50am for Te Hutewai Road, Waimaunga Road and Ruapuke Road.
There are road closures in place from 7.30am – 2.15pm for Ruapuke and Whaanga Roads.
Local traffic can still travel on these roads during these times; however, they can only travel in the same direction as the riders.
