June Police Bulletin

Here is the latest Police bulletin from Raewyn McLACHLAN, Constable RMJ440, RAGLAN

New Zealand Police | 5 Wi Neera Street | PO Box 10 | RAGLAN 3225

Hi all

It has been very busy at the Raglan Station over the past 4 weeks. Dean has been seconded to work in the Neighbourhood Policing Team in Huntly for two months, where he’s raaking up the locals over there, and Kevin was away on leave for a short time as well. Kevin’s back from leave now, and Dean’s probably got another month to go in Huntly, so it’s all go.

Sadly most of the jobs we have had to attend over the past week or so are Family Violence incidents. Increasingly we are finding that the jobs involve child vs parents with the aggressor being the child (child being under 17 in terms of the law), with verbal and physical violence being used. Most of the children are between 12-16 years. More often than not, the aggressor is a male child and the violence is directed at the females in the household, Mum, sister or other care-giver, sometimes even Grandmother.

Very often, the violent behaviour perpetrated by the child is on-going and has been tolerated by the parent/s over a long period of time before Police are finally called to attend. Family Violence and abuse in all its forms (physical, verbal, emotional, sexual, psychological) should not be tolerated in any family. Police can be called at the time of the incident occuring by phoning 111, especially if you can hear or see Family Violence happening. Otherwise a phone call to the station or crimestoppers during the day to report your concerns if you are a neighbour, friend, family member who is worried about a family situation.

On a lighter note ….. check out the Connect Whaingaroa Open Day being held this Saturday, the 6th, at the Town Hall. It is an open day to showcase many of the voluntary and non-profit making organisations/groups in our town. The aim of the Open Day is to let the community know what is available in our town. Most of these organisations/groups are also usually looking to increase their volunteer base as well. I understand Kathy is organising a Neighbourhood Support table at the hall, so she may need some assistance if anyone is free.

Hope you’re all keeping warm and dry, and not too wind-blown.

Raewyn
