Is there a story from your community that you would like to tell through film but don’t know where to start?
Join the emerging filmmakers for a two-day workshop to give you the opportunity to learn what it takes to make a short film.
Five experienced industry professionals will guide you through each stage of the filmmaking process – from the initial concept writing, directing, to the nuts and bolts of production and post-production.
WAIMIHI HOTERE – actress from latest feature film ‘WARU’ and works in TV, Theatre, Music and Film. . She trained at the NZ Drama school, has a Masters Degree in Applied Indigenous Knowledge, developed television resources for Te Wānanga o Aotearoa, provided advisory services with Creative Waikato and was General Manager for Ngā Aho Whakaari: Māori in Screen Production Inc. Waimihi is a creative connector driven to bring people opportunities to shine.
MICHAEL ROBINS – hails from a family embedded in the film industry since the 1970s, growing up in Wellington he began rolling Ice creams at the Embassy Theatre picture palace. He’s since worked on set in almost every province of Aotearoa and Australia on a vast variety of roles and with credits on jobs such as Alien Covenant, Patu Ihu, A Wrinkle in Time and most recently Hamish Bennett’s drama Northland.

Raglan Filmmakers Workshop invites Rangatahi aged 13yrs+ to participate.
Step One: What do I need to bring to the workshop?
The workshop participants are invited to bring a short story idea with up to three characters and spanning two scenes (can be part of a current film project) to the workshop.
Step Two: What is the Workshop Program over the two-days?
Each story will then be pitched to the group. The group will discuss and select one story to develop during the workshop and turn that into a filmed project.
Step Three -The practical sessions will be split into pre-production // production // post production of the selected story and guided by the mentors.
Workshop participants will break off into groups with guest speakers / industry professionals who will mentor them about their roles and share their experiences and advice them on how to use the equipment needed to make a film.
Once pre-production planning has taken place the crew will re-assemble to shoot the few scenes over the next days.
By the end of the 2-day workshop the group will have developed and completed a short film to screen with a hand on approach mentorship by Industry professionals.
