Postponed: Snow on the Beach and Mid-winter Swim

Note: Snow on the Beach and Mid winter swim postponed till 4th July due to forecast of rain. The Raglan Chamber of Commerce Matariki events this weekend have also been postponed as well to July 3 for the Bonfire and July 4 for the Kite Flying, in line with the snow on the beach postponement.

The annual mid-winter swim, snow on the beach plus this year Matariki kite flying is on Saturday 20th June. Kite flying starts at 10am, Snow on the Beach at 11am, then the Mid-winter Swim at 11.30.  

Twelve tonnes of snow will be dropped onto Papa Hua No. 3 Block next to the Boat Ramp and Te Kopua Domain. The Raglan House have organised the ‘snowfall’ for the Snow on this Beach Festival.

Matariki – Manu Tukutuku | Kite Flying

Bring your own kite and celebrate Matariki!
Saturday, 20 June / 10AM on Papahua 3, by the boat ramp.

Decorate/build/construct your own kite for Raglan | Whaingaroa Kite Day in honour of Matariki.

There will be prizes for the best traditional kite, best contemporary kite, highest flyer.. lowest flyer and more!

YES IT’S THAT TIME AGAIN, for the MID WINTER SWIM and SNOW ON THE BEACH.

This event is being held in conjunction with the Ray White Mid-winter Swim.Note: Snow on the Beach and mid-winter swim postponed till 4th July due to forecast of rain.   The “Snowfield” will open at 11am and the swim will take place at 11.30am. Come along and have loads of fun in the snow – make a snowman or a snow angel – and if you are brave enough, join in the madness of the mid winter swim! If you are swimming, make sure you dress up and compete for the best dressed costumes!

There are GREAT PRIZES THIS YEAR for the swim: Best dressed team, $200 voucher, best dressed school $300 Voucher for school plus prizes for kids, BEST INDIVIDUAL $100…AND $50 for best dressed crowd supporter plus a swim prize for going around the buoy.

The event will be RAISING MONEY FOR SEA RESCUE AND SURF LIFE SAVING.

Also Poihakena Marae Kuamatua will be having a fundraiser hangi at $7 a meal.


Dave Hanna has organised a Comp, between now and Friday night at 6pm, with a $100 prize to guess how many people will go in the water, only people who turn up at the swim are eligible. If IT’S A DRAW HE WILL PULL THOSE NAMES OUT OF A HAT. To enter just comment on Dave’s Facebook post, and he will pull the names and your guess off. Good luck.
