There’s a workshop coming up for people interested in protecting the Raglan community’s heritage.
Raglan and the Waikato District has a rich and varied heritage. WDC is keen to capture this in all its forms – built, natural or cultural heritage – and wants to work together with communities on this important aspect of our district. If you have an interest in identifying and protecting your area’s heritage we are keen for you to share that so we can all recognise and preserve our district’s unique features for future generations.
If you would like to be involved in identifying heritage come along to the Raglan and surrounds meeting which is being held at:
19 June 2014, 6.30pm
Raglan Town Hall, Supper Room,
Bow Street, Raglan
The Waikato District Heritage Strategy has been adopted by WDC. The next step is setting up heritage working groups. The document can be read here on the WDC website.
Notes:
Heritage can be in several forms:
Built heritage:
The legacy of man-made buildings, structures and objects and associated intangible attributes.
Natural heritage:
The legacy of natural places, objects and intangible attributes encompassing the rural and natural environment, including flora and fauna.
Cultural heritage:
made up of two components:
- the tangible – artefacts, ecofacts, buildings, gardens, landscapes, historic places, relics of the past, material remains big and small; and
- the intangible – folklore, language, music, dance, manners, memories, customs, traditions, histories, and notions of identity.
