Jun 13: Ramblers to identify trees in Wainui Bush Park

Raglan Ramblers have changed their walk from Karioi on 13th June as DoC hasn’t announced the reopening of Karioi, whilst they finish off their myrtle rust survey.

The walk will now see them meeting at Wainui Bush Park first. For those car pooling they should got to the Fire Station carpark for 9am for a ride to the reserve. Peter Cave will meet the Ramblers there at around 9am and he will help us identify native trees as we walk through the Reserve. Duncan Mackay from A Rocha may also join them to talk about pest control and demonstrate how the different traps work.

Making rat traps

After the walk in the bush park the  plan is go to a venue (still to be decided on) to form an assembly line making the tunnels for rat traps. The Ramblers did some rat trap building work last year on an assembly line at Kristel Van Houte’s house. The aim is to repeat this making a good supply of tunnels for use by the many people in Raglan who want to get rid of rats and mice.

Please bring your lunch.
