Jul 31: Ramblers to explore Pakoka estuary and its beaches and islets

Pakoka Estuary – John Lawson

Next Wednesday (31st July) the Ramblers will be exploring the Pakoka estuary and the beaches and islets in it. This is where the river, which rises at the windfarm and falls 55m at Wairēinga, reaches Aotea Harbour. In between Karetoto Island and Te Papatapu Rd is a 60m limestone bluff to climb up and down. With high tide at 9.15am, it should be possible to look down on the harbour when it has plenty of water in it and then follow the beaches as the tide falls. The walk isn’t very long, but there’ll be plenty to look at, so bring lunch.

There is no membership – the only cost is 10 cents per km to share travel costs. Details from John 825 7866. Check out Raglan Ramblers on Facebook-https://www.facebook.com/RaglanRamblers/.

Each “Rambler” accepts responsibility for any accident or injury received while travelling, or walking over private property. Be prepared – carry enough food, clothing, first aid kit for emergencies and preferably a mobile phone.
