Jul 25: Raglan wastewater overflow

Media Release: Waikato District Council, 25 July, 2016

Raglan wastewater overflow

Waikato District Council staff are currently investigating a wastewater overflow in Raglan.

The overflow, which occurred near the Greenslade Road pump station, was the result of a localised network power outage in the area. This then caused the pump station to fail, the network to build up and wastewater to escape from a near-by manhole. Unlike wastewater pump stations, manholes are not remotely monitored by Council.

An investigation is currently underway and signs have been put up around Raglan today advising against swimming and shellfish harvesting in Raglan Harbour. Conversations with the Waikato District Health Board are ongoing to determine when the advisory can be lifted.
