Raglanders turned out in force at 11am on Thursday 1st September to protest Australian owned Westpac bank’s proposal to close its branch in Raglan. The protest march left the Raglan House and walked west down Bow Street.
Placards and loud hailers gave the message that, “It’s not not alright to close Westpac Raglan” and “What shameful bankers U R”.
After walking down Bow Street, the protest crossed over to the other side and marched up to the Westpac, where Tony Agar addressed the crowd pointing out that the proposal didn’t line up with the Australian bank’s own mission statement. Ward Councillor elect, Lisa Thomson, then spoke to the meeting talking about the importance of the bank for the local community.
