Just over 500 Harleys thundered out of Raglan this morning on the HOG Thunder Ride from Raglan to Hamilton and return. Leaving Raglan just after 9am, the ride took 8 minutes to pass from top to tail. By the time the first riders had reached Te Uku, the last riders were just leaving Raglan.
Counting passengers, over 800 people took part in the event cheered on with waves from locals who line the route. Leaving Raglan on SH23, when they reached Hamilton, they traveled up Killarney Rd, past the lake and on to Collingwood St. Then they went along Anglesea St, Ulster St, Te Rapa Rd then along Avalon Dr and on to Rotokauri Rd. From there they will made their way to Whatawhata and back to Raglan.
A HOG Rally organiser, Mr Aird said the club had done a mail drop along the route of the Thunder Run to ensure residents knew that the group ride would be happening. “Because it will be a very long line.” Mr Aird said being part of it all was like belonging to a large and very loud family where everyone was passionate about the same thing.
