Greenpeace have lost their bid to stop oil giant Anadarko ultra deep-sea drilling off Raglan’s coast. Greenpeace wanted a judicial review of the decision to let the company drill off the Raglan coast and in the Canterbury Basin, but the Wellington High Court dismissed their application on Thursday.

Greenpeace said that the Texan/ Cayman Islands oil company had not provided adequately for the possibility of an oil spill in the impact assessment they submitted to the Environmental Protection Authority (EPA),

Justice Alan MacKenzie said the EPA, who gave Anadarko consent to drill, was correct to accept Anadarko’s impact assessment. He dismissed the application for a judicial review.
