Heavy weather forecast to hit Raglan and the Waikato

Heavy weather is expected to hit Raglan and the Waikato this afternoon and evening (31st August). The forecast is for rain expected to become heavy this evening (Monday 31st), then ease around midday Tuesday 1st. In the 15 hours from 8pm today to midday Tuesday expect 80 to 100mm about the hills south of Hamilton, with 40 to 70mm elsewhere. Peak intensities 10 to 15mm/hr Tuesday morning.

Severe southeast gales for Nelson, Buller and northern Westland. Heavy rain for Waikato, western Bay of Plenty and western Nelson.

A deep low-lying west of the North Island is expected to move over the South Island on Tuesday. Associated fronts are expected to move across northern and central New Zealand today (Monday) and Tuesday morning. These fronts are preceded by strong to gale east to northeast winds, with outbreaks of heavy rain expected about northern and central parts of the North Island and the upper South Island. A SEVERE WEATHER WATCH is also in force for many parts of northern and central New Zealand for this event.
