Hawks and Doves visiting Raglan

Rising from the ashes of the critically acclaimed group, The Septembers, a new band; “Hawks & Doves” are set to write the next chapter in New Zealand music…

Singer/songwriter Anthony Stretch now combines his talents with those of British born guitarist/songwriter Mark Baker, a collaboration that has produced a musical partnership with rare potential. From their intertwined harmonies to their outstanding guitar work, their combined gifts and ear for melody has them under the influence of those songwriters who have created for their favourite bands; Big Star, The Beatles, The Smiths, Phil Spector, Wilco, Neil Young, etc.

Like all great bands, a great rhythm section is at the heart of Hawks & Doves. The intuitive lines of Zaria Yusoff (officially the coolest woman playing bass guitar in NZ) weaves their whole sound together. While driving the band with his ever inventive rhythms, is a musician who happens to play drums, Steven Gray.

With the melodic traits of the best British pop and the rhythmic groove of vintage Americana, their sound is an addictive and heady brew. Bursting with hooks and melody, the band is a live act that captures you from the first chord.

Already booked for summer festivals and about to head out on their first tour over 2011, Hawks & Doves are a fresh addition to the scene and a band to re-imagine the sound of NZ music…
