The Groms from Raglan Point Boardriders did well at event 1 of the Billabong Grom Series, at Mount Maunganui over the weekend.
The first event of the Billabong Grom Series presented by Oceanbridge completed at Mount Maunganui today (Sunday 28th January) threw up a number of new junior surfers fresh to the winners circle.
In solid 1.0 metre waves and sea breeze winds at Tay Street, seven of the eight winners across all the divisions were either first timers or returning to the number one spot after a long break.

Jayden Willoughby 1st under 14 boys
Navryn Malone 2nd under 14 boys
Kora Cooper 2nd under 16 boys
Brie Bennett 2nd under 16 girls
Caleb Cutmore 1st under 18 boys
Indica Ratima 2nd under 20 girls.
Raglan’s Jayden Willoughby and Mount Maunganui’s Anna Brock claimed titles in the Under 14 Divisions. Both surfers are first time winners for the Billabong Grom Series. Willoughby surfed to a 12.0 point heat total while Brock won with a total of 6.30.

Event 2 of the Billabong Grom Series will be held at Whangamata in 2 weeks time.
