Green party lifts Raglan vote

With a party vote of 265 recorded at the Raglan Town Hall polling place for Taranaki – King Country, the Green Party pushed its Raglan vote up from 27% in 2011 to 31% in 2014. National was still in front with 325, equal to 38% of the total vote of 865. This was up from the 32% that National got in 2011. Labour dropped from 23% down to 18% while NZ First moved up from 6% to 8%.

For the candidate vote in Raglan for the Taranaki – King Country electorate, the Green Party’s Robert Moore was the winner with 355 votes while National’s Barbara Kuriger had 318 votes. Labour’s Penny Gaylor was way back on 152.

•  325 votes for National Party
• 265 votes for Green Party
• 152 votes for Labour Party
• 70 votes for New Zealand First Party
• 28 votes for Conservative
• 7 votes for Internet MANA
• 5 votes for Māori Party
• 4 votes for Aotearoa Legalise Cannabis Party

At the Raglan Town Hall for the Hauraki – Waikato electorate, Labour topped the vote with 52, followed by the Green Party on 40, the Maori Party on 17, NZ First on 14 and National on 10.

Totalling these two electorates gives an overall Raglan Town Hall party vote for the Green Party on 305 just behind National on 335.  The early vote has yet to be added to these totals.

• 152 vote for GAYLOR, Penny (Labour)
• 27 vote for AISH, Edward (Conservative)
• 8 vote for ESPIN, David (Democrats for Social Credit)
• 4 vote for KEINZLEY, Grant (Internet)

Overall for Taranaki – King Country, National’s Barbara Kuriger was the winner with  20,438 votes. Labour’s Penny Gaylor came in second with 5041 votes with Green’s Robert Moore on 2681. So newcomer Barbara Kuriger is elected  as the MP for Taranaki – King Country.

Barbara Kuriger said, “Raglan has been an area of intense interest for me in the election campaign process and I have met many interesting people who I wish to work closer with as an MP to progress solutions in areas that are important to the community.  I intend to be in Raglan on a regular basis. I would be very happy to do a regular roundup or the like on Raglan Community Radio”.

In Raglan’s Maori electorate, Hauraki- Waikato, Labour’s Nanaia Mahuta came first equal with 64 votes matching Mana’s Angeline Greensill also on 64 votes. The Maori Party’s was on 24.

Overall for Hauraki- Waikato, Labour’s Nanaia Mahuta came first with 10,510 votes and was returned as MP.
