Raglan’s green fingered folk turned out in force on Thursday in the Raglan Town Hall Supper Room to learn the winners of the Raglan Best Garden competition. The annual competition, sponsored by the Raglan Community Board and organised by staff in Waikato District council’s Raglan office is looked forward to with anticipation by local gardeners.
Despite difficult growing conditions over winter and spring, the judges said that the gardeners had once again produced some stunning and beautiful results. The three judges (Shaan and Christina from the Raglan office and Barry Ashby from the Raglan Community Board) awarded prizes in the categories of Best children’s gardens (school or home), Best small garden, Best street appearance, Best vegetable garden, Best established garden, and Best new garden. Judge Barry was so impressed by one garden that he gave it a special ‘Barry’ commendation.
The prizes were presented by Community Board Chair Rodger Gallagher. After the prize giving, the winners enjoyed an afternooon tea.
