Nanaia Mahuta is the first candidate in the General Election to take up the challenge and answer our 1o question challenge.  Thanks Nanaia!

1. Who are you and what do you want?

Kia Ora! I’m Nanaia Mahuta representing Labour in Hauraki-Waikato. Jobs, cost of living pressures and opportunities for our young people are critically important. If you think so support me!

2. You have 30 seconds to convince someone to come to Raglan, Whaningaroa. What’s your pitch?

Where else can you go to get, surf, a great mountain, creative community, quirky arts and crafts, a community that’s lives it’s values of a clean green environment – Whaingaroa! Raglan!

3. When did you last use the Raglan library, or a local community or sports facility west of the divvy in Whaingaroa?

No I can’t say that I have as Raglan is a place I visit when called on to support community events or when I want to go to the beach for time out and a walk.

4. Would you welcome a central government driven “super-city” amalgamation of local authorities in the Waikato?

No forced amalgamations. Anything done to improve local government structures must retain strong local input from the community to retain it’s special character. We should learn from the supercity experience!!!

5. What achievement for Raglan are you most proud of?

Under Labour recognition of the essential services offered by community houses like budgeting advice albeit small in funding terms is huge when it comes to making a difference. Labour is still committed to supporting Enviro- schools.

6. How can we make Raglan even more environmentally friendly

Increased bus service for those who commute to Hamilton. Work with WDC to charge a visitor levy to go towards waste disposal and local projects as identified by the community.

7. If you don’t live here what will you do to make sure you represent the area?

I will make myself available to constituents in Raglan. I am happy to host clinics at the community house or at local Marae whatever is the easiest option for the locals.

8. What’s your personal association with Raglan, Whaingaroa.

it’s a fantastic summer holiday spot, fun for swimming, a walk up Karioi, surf watching, waka ama or browsing through the village – a great place to take manuwhiri.

9. What policy of your party do you think will have the most impact on Raglan.

Local people are being priced out of Raglan. Labour’s CGT will put an end to property developers creaming the housing market and shift investor opportunity elsewhere. Fair Tax for everyone!

10. Describe you bicycle, your favourite walking route or your favourite surfing spot.

Favourite walking route, Pirongia, Hakarimata, Kakepuku, Taupiri, Maungatautari and of course along the Waikato river.
