Mayor Allan Sanson has announced the appointment of Gavin Ion as Waikato District Council Chief Executive for a term of 5 years. “The Council has confirmed Gavin’s appointment following a highly competitive process involving executive recruiters Sheffield,” said Mayor Sanson. Waikato District Council is responsible for Council services in Raglan.

“Gavin is very excited about leading our organisation through this period of sustained growth. He is particularly enthusiastic to pick up the challenge laid by Councillors to really focus our efforts on building strong, connected communities within our district,” he said.

Mr Ion said he was really fired up by the opportunities facing the Waikato District. “We’re now the third fastest growing district in the country. Over the last year we’ve continued to have robust business and job growth, and this is creating great opportunities to keep our people and attract new residents.”

“I have a great team around me and I am enthusiastic about what we can achieve together for our
district,” said Mr Ion.

Gavin Ion has been Chief Executive at Waikato District Council since 2004.

  1. No mention of “most engaged community by 2020” in there, as reported on Raglan23 on 2 August. A pity that optimism seems to have gone.

    1. Yes I noticed that goal had gone. Perhaps in the Sheffield interviews, they couldn’t find any applicant who would promise to deliver on that.

  2. or deliver on getting things right first time – “Waikato District Council sends out incorrect TXT debt messages”!
