With warm weather now with us you might think that water use would be soaring in Raglan. While that’s true in the Waikato and Hamilton, Raglan folk are continuing their frugal use of water. In fact we are using even less water than the already low consumption earlier in January. Water usage has dropped from around 2,200 cubic metres a day down to about 1,900 cubic metres a day. With this type of frugal water use perhaps the expensive water meters planned by Waikato District Council to reduce water use won’t be needed in Raglan.
Water restrictions remain at Level 2 even though there isn’t a shortage of water in Raglan. The water restrictions are a marketing decision chiefly driven by high water consumption in Hamilton City.
What Level 2 means is that sprinklers can only be used on alternate days and only in the 6-8am and 6-8pm time slots. No restriction has been imposed on commercial users.
Water usage in Raglan for the past week was:
Mon 14 Jan | Tues 15 Jan | Wed 16 Jan | Thurs 17 Jan | Fri 18 Jan | Sat 19 Jan | Sun 20 Jan | |
Raglan | 1738 | 1770 | 1803 | 1697 | 1850 | 1980 | 1924 |
* Please note: information is in cubic meters. 1 cubic meter = 1000 litres |
Rodger, water demand last week increased significantly, including Raglan. Its great to hear people are managing water use, but they will need to do more to avoid a move to Alert Level 3 later this week.
We are very vunerable to any minor fault in the network and with pumps running hard, this is quite possible. We don’t want people in higher areas to run out of water.
