From Feb 12: Roadworks on SH23

Fulton Hogan Waikato will be undertaking a road rebuild in your area as part of the 2023/24 summer state highway road renewals programme.

This project is being carried out over the full width of SH23, Raglan, near Maungatawhiri Road and we will be carrying out the road rebuild in three phases.

  1. Preparation work including kerb and channel and subsoil drainage works. This phase of the work is expected to take two weeks to complete and will be carried out during the day between 7am and 5pm under Stop/Go traffic management. This work is programmed to commence 12 February 2024 and is weather and resource dependent.
  1. Once we have completed the preparation work, we will then carry out the road rebuild. This involves removing the existing road layers and replacing them. Finally, we will sweep the highway and apply linemarking. This work is expected to take two weeks to complete and is programmed to commence 25 February 2024 and is weather and resource dependent.
  1. We will return in the 2024/25 summer season to apply the second coat seal.

While we always aim to do our work with as little disruption as possible, we do appreciate that some inconvenience will be caused while we carry out these projects.

  1. To ensure the safety of our crews and road users while the work is undertaken we need to close SH23 to all through traffic between house #4095 and #4180. The closure will be in place Sunday to Thursday nights (weather permitting) between 9pm and 5am. Outside of these hours, including Friday and Saturday nights, Stop/Go traffic management will be in place.

Vehicles will be allowed through the worksite at 9:45pm, 11pm, 1am and 3am. Vehicles must be at the closure points at either end of the site and Maungatawhiri Road intersection at these times to be escorted through the worksite. Once the queue is through the site the closure will re-commence until the next opening time.

  1. Some of the machinery we use is noisy and the road will be unsealed during construction and sometimes dust can be generated. We will aim to minimise these impacts where possible.

Residents will have access to their properties at all times. Please approach one of the traffic controllers on site who will be happy to provide assistance if required.

Emergency services will be given priority access at all times through the work site.

On behalf of NZTA and Fulton Hogan Waikato, thank you for your patience and understanding while we undertake this important work within your community.
