Media Release: NZ Post, 17 January 2014
Four Raglan groups are amongst hundreds of community groups in the Waikato region that have received free postal services this year as part of New Zealand Post’s CommunityPost programme.
Nationally, CommunityPost donated around 1.5 million postage-included envelopes and other postal services this year to 2220 not-for-profit organisations across New Zealand to help support local communities.
In Waikato, 404 community groups received free postal services. In Raglan this includes:
- Raglan Kindergarten Waikato, which received 300 envelopes,
- Raglan Residents & Ratepayers Assn Inc, which received 100,
- Raglan Returned & Services Assn Inc, which received 300, and
- Raglan Swimming Society Incorporated, which received 500.
New Zealand Post Group Brand and Sponsorship Manager Nicola Airey said the CommunityPost programme enabled the company to help thousands of not-for-profit community groups across New Zealand.
“Through CommunityPost we are able to help strengthen communities by supporting literacy, education, and health and wellness programmes, as well as helping community groups develop business partnerships. The envelopes are used to support projects such as fund-raising activities.
“Investing in the community is a key part of New Zealand Post’s sustainability programme. Other community initiatives include ActivePost – to encourage physical activity, the New Zealand Post Book Awards and the New Zealand Post Children’s Book Awards.”
Sixteen Regional CommunityPost Boards made up of New Zealand Post representatives, local business and community leaders allocate envelopes and other New Zealand Post services such as ReachMedia and marketing data services based on local community needs and alignment with its sponsorship themes.
CommunityPost has been running for 16 years. In that time over 14 million postage-included envelopes have been donated – the equivalent of 280 tonnes of envelopes, which would fill 23 trucks and trailers, and need more than 8000 posties to get them delivered all in one day.
This year, CommunityPost provided postage-included envelopes and other free postal services to:
• 261 Northland based organisations
• 500 Auckland based organisations
• 354 Bay of Plenty based organisations
• 404 Waikato based organisations
• 314 Hawkes Bay based organisations
• 345 Taranaki – Manawatu based organisations
• 239 Wellington based organisations
• 220 Upper South Island based organisations
• 242 Central South Island based organisations
