The Waikato Times has reported that a fisherman was found dead by farm workers on rocks at Te Akau north of Raglan.

A dead fisherman’s body was winched off rocks north of Raglan on Friday 12th.

The man in his 40s was found dead at the coastal fishing spot in Te Akau by farm workers on Friday morning.

Family raised the alarm after the Waikato man failed to return from a fishing trip.

Waikato police Senior Sergeant Andrew Mortimore said the man was discovered in a remote location off a rural access road, leading to Te Akau South Rd.

“Search and rescue, and a rescue helicopter were called in to retrieve the body of the deceased, with assistance of the farmer.

“He was in a difficult location to access.”

The man’s body was winched off the rocks by the Waikato Westpac Rescue helicopter.

At this stage it was unclear how the man died, Mortimore said, whether it was a medical event or accident.

His death had been referred to the Coroner who would investigate.
