Waikato District Council advises that work has been completed on the seawall between the Papahua footbridge and the jetty reserve at the north end of Bow Street. The footpath along the Opotoru Estuary has reopened. Mayor Jacqui Church announced that the northern sea wall repair was completed to a high standard and $15,000 under budget. The remaining budget will be added for further upgrades to the footpath and balustrade works later in the 23/24 summer.
WDC said the contractor engaged to undertake the works north of the footbridge allowed the seawall repaired to be repaired followed construction of a compliant footpath and balustrade in Feb-Apr 2024.
The council has also advised that soon they will working on tendering the design of the seawall repair and footpath/balustrade works south of the pedestrian bridge. Physical works for this will likely be in 2024/2025.
