Fire and Emergency New Zealand are reminding people that a Restricted Fire Season for Open fires is in force. This restriction requires anyone lighting an open air fire rural or urban to obtain a Fire Permit from Council before commencing.  The last day to apply for a permit was 20th December, so if you haven’t got one now than you can’t light a fire or bonfire tonight. Fires that do not require a fire permit in a Restricted or Prohibited Fire Season include gas cooker or gas barbeques and a compliant outdoor fire device and a compliant incinerator which must contain all embers and sparks.
