Feb 8: Raglan Community Board meeting

The next Board meeting is Wed 8 February at 1.30pm in the Town Hall Supper Room.

The public forum will be near the start of the formal meeting, giving the usual opportunity to discuss issues. You might prefer to email/phone the Community Board members:- Chris Rayner, Dennis Amoore, Kiri Binnersley, Lisa Thomson, Ross Wallis, Satnam Bains and Tony Oosten.

Wednesday’s agenda once again lacks some information, but includes –

  1. Civil DefenceMr Amoore, Mr Wallis and Cr Thomson will meet and discuss targets for Civil Defence in the first week of February. . . The Chair to provide an update”.
  2. Wi Neera Walkway – “Options for the final detailed design of the walkway and associated costs, consenting requirements, and consultation are being considered to confirm the final design scope.”
  3. WharfUnder-wharf Hydro Demolition is now complete. . . pontoon . . . Work with HEB to cover off Regional and District consent conditions [not published] – Western walkway . . . A design workshop has been carried out to refine the SP3 design, to ensure it is cost effective, able to be consented, and meets the requirements. [no detail]”
  4. Watercare Update – Verbal – probably it’ll include this – Waters Governance agenda 7 Feb – flooding at 30 and 32a Cambrae Rd to cost $900,000 ($330,000 of it from the Raglan Stormwater Upgrades) to put in larger pipes and daylight a section of the stream. WRC gave WDC notice to end non-compliance with faecal coliform and suspended solids limits by 30 June 2024. Renewing sewage works consent [public excluded part of meeting] – WDC “Property Team is advancing matters with the landowner” to get a Memorandum of Understanding about land for sub-surface drip irrigation. Also pipeline route and effect on wetlands and streams. Stormwater is still getting into the sewage, so treated waste has to be pumped on all tides. Smoke testing in Jan 2017 in NE Raglan to find stormwater connections feeding into the sewage “yielded fairly negligible results”. In 2018, several manholes near Wallis St were sealed to keep out storm water. Since 2017 CCTV of “>90% of the wastewater network districtwide” found root intrusion, cracked/disjointed pipes and broken sewer lines which were rectified. CCTV of 3km in Raglan to recommence in mid-Jan.
  5. Waikowhai walkway RCB “waiting reply from WDC on why they believe they need to close the walkway.”
  6. Roading A new manager started on 23 Jan, and is invited to this meeting. “The quarterly Roading report will not be available until March due to lack of resources.”
  7. Manu Bay Breakwater – eCoast /Tonkin & Taylor report due by Fri 9 Dec, followed by peer review to 23 Dec. Workshop for 16-20 Jan – now postponed to 27-31 Mar due to covid and availability.
  8. Soundsplash – “A report for the 2023 event will be given to the Community Board once the review is complete.” Minutes say “Council requested additional infrastructure [no detail] to stop long waits at the airfield when parking”.
  9. Playground – Greenslade Rd Reserve – “there is a budget shortfall and site constraints to be confirmed”.
  10. Swimming Pool Project at Rangitahi Mr Wallis to provide an update at this meeting.
  11. Reports – Raglan Naturally, Councillor, Board Members Verbal
  12. Rugby Club Lights are Council-owned (a question was asked about them always being on). 
  13. Xtreme Waste to be asked to speak at March meeting.
  14. Discretionary fund has $12,941. A group of local residents want $1500 for a Kaitoke walkway weed management plan. Community Gym sent information about other funding options – update at this meeting.

Issues missing from the agenda are Papahua fence, 5G telecom tower, Harbour Strategy, soccer field flooding, Coastal Reserves meeting, bus survey, airfield, Animal Control late responses, World Rally Championship, unsealed roading, parking, cycle counts, Bayview & Greenslade Rd safety, CCTV, Canada Geese, Papahua estuary planting, Cliff St, Park Dr/Long St crossing, town square, Town Hall Committee, coastal erosion, Climate Response Plan, Energy Project, WRAP, Town Hall Warrant of Fitness, Calvert Rd parking, Te Uku & Te Mata Recycling, Hills Rd water tower, volunteer worker safety, Puriri Park, Manu Bay planting, Eco Village.
