The western walkway improvement project at Whāingaroa Wharf will be back up and running from Monday 12 February. Work will continue until the end of April. The work to be completed includes:
- Craning into place the tidal terraces
- Cultural and historical signboard installation
- Laser cut steel panels acknowledging the harbors marine life
- Pa Kahawai sculpture at the entrance
- Pedestrian raised table at the entrance and adjoining footpath
- Asphalt pavement surfacing and line marking
- Tree planting.
During February to April there will be impacts to the area, with periods of lots of truck movements for the tidal terrace installation, periods of closure of the vehicle loop, and some parking will be impacted.
Project officials say they are looking forward to celebrating the official opening of the area once the work is completed.
