After an official opening on Friday 26th June, the Bow Street parklets are now open and waiting for users. The parklets have wooden bench seats and steel brackets suitable for tying bicycles or dogs to. When we visited on the morning of Saturday 26th, the damp day mean that the parklets were empty, apart from some road safety cones, waiting for users. No doubt we will see people use them on sunny days.
A plastic laminated sign advised potential users to, “Enjoy this space”. Disability access will be provided next week. Currently the seats are reached by stepping up the platform levels. The parklets are part of the Raglan Community Board/ Waikato District Council’s ‘Places for People’ project. Funding was provided by the NZ Government, through Waka Kotahi’s (NZTA) Innovating Streets fund.
