Electric bus now on Raglan streets

Raglan's ELECTRIC bus

Wahinemoe, the new sunset tour boat in Raglan New Zealand has a sister service provided by an electric bus.  The bus is a 24 passenger Toyota Coaster hybrid where the petrol engine drives an electric generator that both charges the onboard hybrid batteries and powers an electric motor connected to the rear wheels through a conventional differential and axle. This type of configuration is used today in many heavy-duty buses and trucks, and is called a “series” hybrid.

The  Raglan Boat Charters’ ELECTRIC bus is running every day during the summer season from November to April.  There are designated bus stops points from Whale Bay through the township and on to the wharf.

The initial timetable is:

  • Karioi Camp 5.10pm
  • Solscape 5.15pm
  • Ngarunui Beach main car park 5.20pm
  • Kopua Holiday Park 5.30pm
  • Raglan Library, Bow St 5.35pm
  • Rugby Field 5.40pm.

Please phone 825 7873 to book a ride and check times. Parking is usually hard to find near the wharf, so the complimentary bus is a great idea.
