Waikato District Council is asking for feedback on its proposed Alcohol Control Bylaw.
The purpose of the bylaw is to reduce alcohol-related harm, and the potential for public nuisance, damage to property and offensive behaviour as a result of people becoming intoxicated in public places.

The proposed new bylaw supports safe alcohol consumption habits by controlling where and when people can possess or consume alcohol in public places, says Environmental Health Team Leader Anthony Pipe. This is done through a mix of permanent, seasonal and time bans in our towns, urban areas, beaches, and reserves.
“We have developed three key proposals for consideration. We want to hear what our communities want. What do you think about what we are proposing? Have we got the proposed bylaw right? Let us know by making a submission and having your say. You have until 5pm on Monday 5 October 2020 to send us your feedback.”

A hearing will be held in October. After the hearing, Council will consider all the submissions received and make decisions on any amendments to the proposed Bylaw as a result. Council will consider a final Alcohol Control Bylaw for adoption on 14 December 2020.
