Double parking OKd for Stewart Street

Waikato District Council regulators have doubled up and used the same road verge area in Stewart Street, Raglan as overflow parking for two development projects. Both the Raglan Museum development approved in 2011 and the Wainui Road apartment blocks approved this year have insufficient parking onsite. Because of this the regulators who approved each project required overflow parking on road verges to be built.

It has taken Waikato District Council a long time to provide the required parking for the musuem and i-SITE. Seven years after the museum opened in 2011, Ian Catchcart, GM Service Delivery Manager, presented plans for the museum’s street parking to the Raglan Community Board at its August 2018 meeting.  The plan shows nine parking spaces opposite the Union Church in Stewart Street.

The area approved as overflow parking for the 12 Wainui Road development

Meanwhile other Waikato District Council regulators approved six car spaces to be constructed in the same part of Stewart Street to be used as overflow parking for the Wainui Road apartment blocks. The development at 12 Wainui Road, by a Huntly based company  has insufficient car parking onsite.

So it seems that Waikato District Council has Okd double parking in Stewart Street. What seems even stranger is that during peak summer periods this area is already fully utilised for Raglan visitor parking.
