The Raglan Old School Arts Centre has three great nights of movies lined up this week. Here’s the lowdown…

Music lovers won’t want to miss Thursday night’s showing of 2014 Oscar winner Twenty Feet from Stardom, a film that shines a spotlight on the backup singers behind some of the greatest musical legends of the 21st century.
These gifted artists span a range of styles, genres and eras of popular music, but each has a uniquely fascinating and personal story to share of life spent in the shadows of superstardom. The documentary includes rare archival footage and intimate interviews with Bruce Springsteen, Stevie Wonder, Mick Jagger and Sting.

4.5/5 stars. A ringing, resounding tribute to a handful of (predominantly African American) women who have become what might be called household voices, all the while remaining unknown names. Sweet, sad, thrilling, energising, unmissable. Recommended.” New Zealand Herald.
