Dog seized following attack in Raglan

Waikato District Council confirms it has seized a dog involved in an incident with another dog on Wainamu Beach (Raglan) Tuesday evening.

Customer Support General Manager, Sue Duignan, says Animal Control officers removed a male pit bull terrier cross from a Raglan property this morning after being made aware of a serious incident by a member of the public.

  • Animal Control officers were advised of the attack on Wednesday morning  (23rd Sept).
  • While investigating the incident a member of the public contacted them to say a dog fitting the description was roaming on the beach.
  • The officers then located and seized the dog which was identified by the attack victims owner as the dog involved.
  • The offending owner was identified and subsequent to discussions with Animal Control the owner surrendered the dog for destruction.
  • Council would like to remind the public that serious incidents involving dogs should be reported to Animal Control immediately on 0800 492 452.
