Do it quicker

Beca present the lengthy timeline

At Monday evening’s Raglan Wharf liaison meeting, Waikato District Council and Beca Infrastructure got a big tick for their progress since the last meeting on pushing the go button for repair of the wharf as the right option and getting on with applying for the resource consent.

When it came to presenting their timeline for repairing the wharf and reinstating the buildings it was a different matter.  The lengthy timeline shown by Beca’s Dean Hermann  showed building work finishing into the fourth quarter of 2011.   Beca and Council were asked to find a way to do it quicker.  Leanne Shiliton pointed out that people have lost their jobs and asked if the next liaison meeting could be held next Monday.  This clear statement of the urgency of the work finally seemed to get through to the Council and Beca staff who were present.  A small group of wharf users was setup to speed the project between major meetings.  Councillor Baddeley emphasised that the building must be suitable for all wharf users and the community as a whole.

There was much discussion on the lean-to building design at the Wallis St end versus the gable design.  A show of hands saw more people voting for the gable design.
