District Plan covering Raglan now partly operative

Waikato District Council’s District Plan covering Raglan will become partly operative from Saturday, 16 July 2011. A resoultion approving this was passed at a Council meeting in Ngaruawahia on 28th June.   There are still a number of unsettled appeals inlcuding three in and around Raglan. The outstanding appeals for Raglan are the ones made by Mr J Lawson, Tainui O Tainui Ki Whaingaroa & Others and the Raglan Land Company.

WDC says that the District Plan promotes the sustainable management of natural and physical resources in the Waikato district, by managing the effects of land use on the environment. The plan also responds to issues in terms of community needs and aspirations.

The Proposed District Plan had 64 appeals from 52 appellants. The appeal points included amendments to the contents of the plan, change to zoning and adding new provisions to the plan.

General Manager Strategy & Support, Tony Whittaker said most parts of the District Plan are currently operative and beyond challenge, and recommends the plan is made partly operative.

“The remaining few appeal points are either location-specific or topic-specific,” he said.

“There is a major administrative advantage in making the District Plan partly operative. The current Proposed District Plan will become the Operative District Plan of the Waikato District Council and the current Operative District Plan will become redundant,” he said.

Making the plan partly operative is a procedural matter under the Resource Management Act 1991 (RMA) for the council.
