An occasional column by Rodger on dining in Raglan
Wallis Bistro has a deck out front, cosy dining inside and a private garden out back. On arrival we were greeted and offered a choice of indoor or outdoor tables. As a storm was forecast we opted for an inside table. The restaurant is cosy and stylish. Perhaps what the Norwegians call koselig. We went for dinner on a Friday which outside went from sunny to stormy with lightning and thunder. A nice backdrop to the cosy vibe inside.
I had the pulled roast lamb shoulder with browned angel pasta, plus sides of new potatoes and green veggies. The meals looked attractive and were tasty. Virginia had the chicken Maryland. The mains come without vegetables, so cost of the sides pushes the price up to the top end of Raglan prices. To accompany the lamb I had a glass of Nessus McLaren Vale shiraz.
For a dessert I picked the chocolate mousse with meringue. All in all a very good dining experience and good service. Service was friendly and prompt, although I did think we were asked a bit too often how our meals were.
All up the for mains, desserts and drinks the cost was $109 for two people.
Overall on Value for Money I gave Wallis Bistro a Seven out of Ten for an excellent meal and service at a good price. I’ll recommend it to visitors for a high quality dining experience.
