Paddle boarders keeping an eye on the whale

Update 7pm, 7th Dec. The whale ent up the harbour past Lorenzen bay and returning on the outgoing tide. DOC has advised that the whale has left Raglan Harbour. It was a mature sperm whale.

A whale was sighted in Raglan Harbour today December 7th off the wharf. Some said it was a humpback whale and it was ill. When it was about 300 metres off the wharf, there was a crowd of about 100 people watching from the wharf. Some paddle boarders and kayakers went out for a close look.

Coastguard said that DOC and the Harbourmaster have been informed.
