On December 14, Raglan Ramblers are off to Te Akatea-Pongawhakatiki for a nine  kilometre walk to the top of the pointed 309 metre hill behind Waingaro. The hill is made of Pongawhakatiki siltstone and formed about 188 million years ago (Ururoan period). From the top of the hill there are views of Karioi, Whaingaroa harbour, Huntly, Kakepuku and many other hills. Below Te Akatea-Pongawhakatiki is an area of regenerating bush in the middle of an organic farm. Some ramblers plan to stop at Waingaro hot pools on the way back, so maybe bring togs and a towel, as well as lunch.

Walks usually start 9am, Wednesdays from Wainui Rd car park (next to Raglan Fire Station). There is no membership – the only cost is 10 cents per km to share travel costs. Details from John 825 7866. Check out Raglan Ramblers on Facebook

Each “Rambler” accepts responsibility for any accident or injury received while travelling, or walking over private property. Be prepared – carry enough food, clothing, first aid kit for emergencies and preferably a mobile phone.
