Dec 14: Last Raglan Community Board meeting for 2022

These notes on the Raglan Community Board Agenda were prepared by John Lawson, Secretary of Whāingaroa Environmental Defence Inc., 51 Cliff St, Raglan 07 825 7866 email johnragla@gmail.com

The next Board meeting is Wed 14 December at 1.30pm in the Town Hall Supper Room. The public forum will be near the start of the formal meeting, giving the usual opportunity to discuss issues. You might prefer to email/phone the Community Board members:- Chris Rayner, Dennis Amoore, Kiri Binnersley, Lisa Thomson, Ross Wallis, Satnam Bains and Tony Oosten.

Wednesday’s agenda is even more lacking in information than has been usual in the recent past. It’s much shorter and Roading, Freedom Camping, Raglan Naturally and Councillor’s and Board Members’ Reports are all listed only as ‘verbal’, with no other information.

There is no explanation given and the Port Waikato and Taupiri Community Board agendas are similarly sparse, though Huntly’s contains rather more detail. At the start of previous terms the first substantive meetings have been in February; possibly the new mayor has added these meetings in an attempt to fulfil her promise of “Effective and transparent communication”, but not alerted report writers. What other reasons might there be?

The agenda includes –

  1. Civil Defence but only says it’s ‘ongoing’ from July.
  2. Soundsplash but “No current additional update for the Sound Splash event since last RCB meeting.”
  3. Wi Neera Walkway – “Tonkin Taylor are carrying out the detailed design of the walkway. Once the design has been received and the community consulted, feedback will be considered and any changes made to the design before consents are lodged.”
  4. Manu Bay Breakwater – eCoast /Tonkin & Taylor report due by Fri 9 Dec, followed by peer review to 23 Dec. Workshop proposed in the week of 16-20 Jan.
  5. Playground – Greenslade Rd Reserve – “team have approval to proceed with site analysis. This will enable scope and budget to be confirmed and concept designs to get underway for community involvement.”
  6. WharfUnder-wharf repairs are still tracking for 12 December completion. . . Pontoon, eastern walkway and kayak ramp . . . Due to the consent delay, there will need to be a revised programme. . . updated again around 13 December.”
  7. Papahua Fence tender – no detail.
  8. Discretionary fund has $21,289. Community Health and Fitness Gym want $5,815 for new equipment (RCB “agreed to differ the application” at the Nov meeting), Community Charitable Trust want $6,000 towards $10,000 cost of New Year fireworks – 48 x 2.5″ + 21 x 3″ Star Shells, Peony, 48 x 3″ Star Mines, Colour & Glitter, 27 x 4″ Star Shells, Crackling Flower, 21 x 5″ Star Shells, Dahlia, Pattern, Brocade costing $11.28 to $53.16 each.

These council sewage items are not on RCB’s agenda

Waters Governance Board 22/11

Maungatawhiri Rd land-based sewage site – “A critical onsite meeting was held with landowner representatives and project staff in late October, which the WDC Managers also attended. An MOU is still being drafted between parties to strengthen the commitment to work together. Land investigation alongside Landcare and discharge experts is to continue on additional sites within the balance lot, where the MOU signing will allow for pilot testing and groundwater monitoring.” Public excluded from Raglan Wastewater Treatment Plant Upgrade item.

Nov 11: Treated waste water released on incoming tide

There’s been no other update on sewage since a video in July.

Other issues missing from the agenda are 5G telecom tower, Harbour Strategy, soccer field flooding, Waikowhai Walkway, Coastal Reserves meeting, bus survey, airfield, Animal Control late responses, Rangitahi swimming pool, World Rally Championship, unsealed roading, stormwater, parking, cycle counts, Bayview & Greenslade Rd safety, CCTV, Canada Geese, Papahua estuary planting, Cliff St, Park Dr/Long St crossing, town square, Town Hall Committee, coastal erosion, Climate Response Plan, Energy Project, WRAP, Town Hall Warrant of Fitness, Calvert Rd parking, Te Uku & Te Mata Recycling, Hills Rd water tower, volunteer worker safety, Puriri Park, Manu Bay planting, Eco Village. Should WED be taking up these or other issues?
