I went along last Sunday to see Crop Swap Raglan at the Bowling Club. Well over 60 crop swappers were there with their beautiful fresh produce. The sessions started at the Town Hall supper room in 2016. Soon the number of swappers had grown so much that they moved their Sunday morning meetings to the Bowling Club in Wallis Street.
The way it works is that from 9.30am to about 10am, people set up the tables with the produce. Then everybody has a look at what others have brought along and while doing this have a chat.
Then the swappers have an opportunity to describe what they have grown. Then the magic swapping time comes and within a couple of minutes most of the produce has a new owner. Then there is more chat followed by cleaning up.
The organisers says that you can bring anything to do with the kitchen or garden. Smaller portions are useful, so you can chop up big items. And remember what you think of as common, not everyone will have in their garden and will be excited to see, e.g. plums, lemons, courgettes, basil. Seeds and seedlings from your garden are also popular, as is baking and preserves.
